Christs College wedding photography of Emma and James

Unexpectedly fine weather for the Christs College wedding photography of Emma and James. The week before the country had been battered with howling gales, things weren’t looking promising. Thankfully though the weather calmed down and we even had some glorious winter sunshine. Great to be back at Christ’s College, such a beautiful venue for a wedding. Also great to be at a wedding with so much significance for Emma and James as this is where they first met back when they were undergraduates. Emma looked absolutely stunning – if there was any doubt she would look anything less. James looked devilishly handsome in his full white tie and tales but couldn’t really compete with Emma’s extraordinary shoes. The Louboutins were quite something to behold, all of them, even the cake topper and vodka luge Louboutin! There was such a great energy on the day, so many friends coming back to college made for a very familiar feel and plenty of Guinness welcomed everyone else in. That vodka luge also helped towards some impressive dancing later in the evening. Emma and James’s dance routine was out and out the best routine I’ve seen put together as a first dance, well if you’re going to do it, throw yourself into to completely!

Christ’s College wedding | Just One

jim / Cambridgeshire Wedding Photography, Christ's College / Cambridge weddings, Christ's College Cambridge, wedding photography / 3 Comments

All week long, howling gales have been hitting the UK so the weather wasn’t looking promising for Emma and James’s Christs College wedding this weekend. But it really was the quiet after the storm as we had picture perfect skies and a warm and rain-free day. I had packed the car in full expectation of having to battle fierce wind and storms but thankfully it wasn’t needed. The word of the day? Well, it had to be ‘shoes’ and specifically Louboutins! So it’s probably a travesty that this shot is not of the incredible shoes themselves (that’s the main Louboutins, not the second pair for the car …) They actually deserve a little post all of their own. Here’s a shot of Emma from the start of the day on the roof terrace of The Varsity Hotel showing incredible grace and poise at the awkward moment another bride came up on to the terrace to have her photographs taken – obviously nowhere near as glamourous or beautiful as Emma. More images to follow soon.

Tea Cups | Wedding Ideas & Inspirations

Vintage wedding theme has probably been one of the most popular themes for weddings over the last few years. It’s not only a great theme to have for a wedding because it’s stylish, simple and elegant but also because it is so wonderfully English. One of the things I like most about a lot of the vintage themed weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing is that to get all the various bits and pieces together for the day has meant asking various family and friends to help out. Joey’s vintage wedding had asked all of her guests to keep an eye for antique tea cups, in shops, out and about even in the attic. It created a great buzz about the wedding itself and got people involved and connected to the wedding. The giant teacups are from Kate and Keiron’s vintage themed wedding. Now, if you don’t have the time or are running short of getting enough tea cups together in time, you can always hire them from Decor & Vintage Crockery Hire.

Hidden gems | a few unseen favourites from 2010

I was planning to put together a selection of favourite images from 2011 and although there are some stunning images to show off (he said ever so modestly!) a few images from each wedding stuck out as real hidden gems that haven’t had much of a showing. These images just stood out from the obvious, some made me laugh out loud, others brought back happy memories of some great couples, touching moments that were very fleeting and others that are just mighty fine pics!

Cambridge wedding photographer | Lara & David

The last wedding before Christmas and what a belter it was too! Fresh snow on the ground caused a few anxious moments in the morning …but hey, what’s a wedding without a few anxious moments. The snow added to the Russian theme of the day with plenty of fantastic fur hats and coats. David and Lara were an absolute joy to be a Cambridge wedding photographer for – I’d met David when I photographed his brother’s wedding, John & Ellie, and where David gave one of the funniest best man speeches I’ve heard at a wedding. So there was absolutely no pressure on John taking on the best man role this time round …and his ushers very kindly didn’t constantly remind him of that. He had nothing to worry about, it was a great speech and brought the house down.

Congratulations to the new Mr&Mrs Lightbody – here are a few of my favourite images from the day and you can see the full gallery by clicking this link | Cambridge Wedding Photographer

Jesus College wedding photography of Lara & David | sneak peek

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding since David very first rang up to book. David is the brother of John, whose wedding I photographed back in ’04 on a scorching hot September day – David and Lara had planned to get married at the same time of year but the announcement of the arrival of several nephews & nieces meant that they had to push the wedding date back to December. And the weather couldn’t have been more different – it snowed steadily pretty much all the afternoon and evening before leaving a near perfect winter wonderland for the next day. Great for photographs but a few anxious phone calls the morning before the wedding to make sure that people could get there okay! More images to follow but here are a few quick favourites from the day

    South Farm Wedding Photography

Before the wedding photography season gets into full-flow, I asked a fellow photographer and good friend if I could shadow him at a wedding he was photographing. Rob from ShootingHip Photography, one of the photographers who shot my wedding, (you had more than one photographer, that’s a bit flash! Well, yes …but that’s a story for another day …!) kindly let me tag long to Jess and Robert’s wedding at South Farm in the brilliantly named village of Shingay-cum-Wendy in South Cambridgeshire. I was there to try out a few new techniques that I had been mulling over the winter months. As it happened, I got a panicked phone call from Rob half an hour before he was due to start who had got stuck in roadworks on the M25. I blushed at his expressive use of the english language and his opinions of the current state of road repairs but it did mean that I was able to step in and photograph the start of the day without a blip in normal service.

Jess and Robert were fantastic and a great couple to be a wedding photographer for. South Farm is a great little venue that grows and changes throughout the year, plenty of wedding photography opportunities to make the most of. Perfect weather with an early spring day and gentle sunshine just added to the mix.

Christ’s College, Cambridge Wedding Photography of Kate and Simon

There are some famous alumni from Christs College, Cambridge, from Darwin andMilton to Richard Whitely and Sascha Baron-Cohen and of course, Kate and Simon. It’s always a joy to photograph in such beautiful surroundings but more so when it has such importance to both Kate and Simon. Here are a few of my favourites from the day and you can see the rest in the gallery by clicking here – Christ’s College Wedding Photography.
