When Hilary phoned up to book a portrait session for her kids and their cousins (nine in total) and was keen to do it outdoors, I was more than happy but I did have visions of the snow and freezing cold weather that we had this time last year before Christmas. I had half expected a very brief photo session before the kids gave into the cold. But I have to take my hat off to her superb organisational skills in providing an absolutely gloriously warm and sunny day. Being a Polstead children’s photographer is always a lot of fun, always seem to be a great crowd of people, but with the fantastic weather, it meant we could do the formal group shots of the kids and then disappear off into the garden and woods and get some more informal shots as well.

Lovely, as always, to see Olivia and Tris and their ever expanding family (four of them so far, another on the way). It’s been a real privilege to see their family grow. The first time I met Olivia, she was getting ready for her wedding at her parents house in Kensington, the next after their first was up and toddling and the most recent was with the four of them. Always a challenge to photograph two littl’uns in their best dresses whilst they are determined to get amongst the flower beds or have an impromptu tea party (with the photographer and a toy horse, of course) but hopefully we’ve managed to get a few decent snaps. And many thanks to the back up team of Olivia’s parents who jumped up and down, pulled funny faces, waved favourite toys and generally were very entertaining for the kids …now that would have made a picture! Suffolk portrait photographer. This is the first of many children’s photography sessions in the blue bell woods. The glorious weather we’ve been having meant that the blue bells came out early but didn’t stay out too long.

Suffolk children’s portrait photographer. Over the last couple of months, I’ve been keeping an eye out for some locations for children’s photography in and around Suffolk. I found a perfect one, a great place for kids to play and for parents to have a quiet picnic so I enlisted the help of a couple of Mums and their willing (although they didn’t know that they were willing) kids to come out and test the first location. Now, and this is where I have to make an apology to the Mums and why the kids became less willing as the day went on, but looking at the weather forecast, we were due some glorious sunshine and which would have been perfect in the golden reed beds. Now, looking at the scarfs and woolly hats, you’ll guess that our glorious sunny day didn’t quite happen to plan. Anyhoo, here’s a few shots from the session …and also a promise not to suggest this spot until the weather warms up a little!

    Blue Bells | Lamarsh

Off out to the first Blue Bell shoot of the year. Photographing portraits in Suffolk this time of year is such a joy with the little pockets of bluebells that carpet some of the woods around us. This cold weather has meant a late start to the blue bells portrait photography but always lots of fun when we get a chance to get out there. Here’s a few shots from James’s family shoot (and James should know a thing or two about plants and seasons, check out his gardening shop at The Garden Factory). Here’s a selection of shots and you can see the full gallery by clicking here.

What photographers do in their downtime pt2

I’m not sure if it’s sad or reassuring but a few of us photographers get together on our days off to …well …go and take photos. Today’s shoot was led by leading fashion photographer, friend and token northerner Paul White. It was an exercise in sharing knowledge and different skill sets and also a chance to bore each other stupid with f-numbers and megapixels. Here’s a few of the snaps that I took:

    Suffolk children’s photography | Flora + Myla

Flora and Myla were unwittingly volunteered to help me with a few test shots today. What should have been 15-20 mins or me trying out one or two shots turned into an 1 1/2 hr of organised chaos! I don’t think slowed down to anything less than a fast jog for the whole time. And some of the stories they told, well it would make a grown blush! Here’s some of my favourite shots.
