Christ’s College wedding | Just One

jim / Cambridgeshire Wedding Photography, Christ's College / Cambridge weddings, Christ's College Cambridge, wedding photography / 2 Comments

All week long, howling gales have been hitting the UK so the weather wasn’t looking promising for Emma and James’s Christs College wedding this weekend. But it really was the quiet after the storm as we had picture perfect skies and a warm and rain-free day. I had packed the car in full expectation of having to battle fierce wind and storms but thankfully it wasn’t needed. The word of the day? Well, it had to be ‘shoes’ and specifically Louboutins! So it’s probably a travesty that this shot is not of the incredible shoes themselves (that’s the main Louboutins, not the second pair for the car …) They actually deserve a little post all of their own. Here’s a shot of Emma from the start of the day on the roof terrace of The Varsity Hotel showing incredible grace and poise at the awkward moment another bride came up on to the terrace to have her photographs taken – obviously nowhere near as glamourous or beautiful as Emma. More images to follow soon.

Dalhousie Castle wedding photography | Just One

In true form, this ‘just one’ post has more than one image (note to self, find new title)! Off to Scotland for the wedding photography of Alanna and Chris at Dalhousie Castle, Dalkeith. Uncharacteristically the Scottish weather was absolutely glorious but it did keep us on our toes with the occasional shower here and there. I wonder if Alanna and Rich will take back tales of golden sunshine and warm weather for Scotland back to the USA? I’m not sure anyone will believe it.Dalhousie Castle wedding photographerDalhousie Castle wedding photography

Ellie + Richard | Stoke Park wedding photographer

Being a Stoke Park wedding photographer is always a great day, it’s a fantastic Buckinghamshire wedding venue that offers so much to photograph. It also offers the option of jumping into a golf buggy (one for the bride and groom, one for me) and driving off around the park looking for photo opportunities. Of course (if anyone at Stoke Park is reading this) we were incredibly sensible and well behaved, although the temptation to see how far/fast they could go was always there! Richard looked very comfortable behind the wheel of his buggy, I wonder if it will convert him from his bikes? A first for me at Ellie and Richard’s wedding was having Ellie’s father help with the wedding dress – unusual in that it’s usually the bridesmaids in charge and unusual in that it was a man who had followed the instructions on how to do the dress up – form experience, Dad’s are usually still doing a bit of gardening or opening champagne. Di McDonald did her usual fantastic job of hair and make-up for the ladies, Ellie looked truly stunning. The speeches were an emotional affair, well for everyone else, I just had a bit of hay fever that’s all – there is such an amazing bond between Ellie and her father and it really showed throughout the day.

The ceremony was held at Chalfont St Giles Parish Church and the reception was at Stoke Park Country Club. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day and you can see the full gallery by clicking this link (you’ll need an access code).

Tea Cups | Wedding Ideas & Inspirations

Vintage wedding theme has probably been one of the most popular themes for weddings over the last few years. It’s not only a great theme to have for a wedding because it’s stylish, simple and elegant but also because it is so wonderfully English. One of the things I like most about a lot of the vintage themed weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing is that to get all the various bits and pieces together for the day has meant asking various family and friends to help out. Joey’s vintage wedding had asked all of her guests to keep an eye for antique tea cups, in shops, out and about even in the attic. It created a great buzz about the wedding itself and got people involved and connected to the wedding. The giant teacups are from Kate and Keiron’s vintage themed wedding. Now, if you don’t have the time or are running short of getting enough tea cups together in time, you can always hire them from Decor & Vintage Crockery Hire.

Wellie boots | Wedding Ideas & Inspirations

jim / Wedding Ideas / essex wedding photographer, suffolk wedding photographer, Suffolk weddings, Wedding ideas and inspirations, wedding photography, Wellington Boots / 2 Comments

We all have the notion that the quintenssential Bristish wedding is champagne on the lawn in glorious sunshine but with the British weather, it’s always a good idea to have a plan B. Quite a few brides have a back up plan of large umbrellas and wellies. Kate (from Kate & Keiron’s wedding in Dorset) knew that whatever the weather, she was going to make the short walk from the church down to the stream she used to play in as kid and she wanted to splash around in the water. Kate bought her wellies from Hunter, Anna bought hers from Laura Ashely and Lucy from Banana Republic. I’ve also seen these from Weddington Boots.

But fingers crossed you wont need them!

Hidden gems | a few unseen favourites from 2010

I was planning to put together a selection of favourite images from 2011 and although there are some stunning images to show off (he said ever so modestly!) a few images from each wedding stuck out as real hidden gems that haven’t had much of a showing. These images just stood out from the obvious, some made me laugh out loud, others brought back happy memories of some great couples, touching moments that were very fleeting and others that are just mighty fine pics!

    Wedding Ideas & Inspirations | DIY photo-booth

jim / Wedding Ideas / suffolk wedding photographer, Wedding ideas and inspirations, wedding photography / 0 Comment

One of the things that always makes me chuckle when I meet couples for the first time and show them my sample albums is that it’s not unusual for them to look at the photos for inspiration of how others have put their wedding together and then look at the wedding photography afterwards. So I thought I’d start posting a few of the nice little touches that I see at weddings throughout the year and hopefully give you an a few wedding ideas and inspirations.

Here is one from Kate and Paul’s Nether Winchendon House wedding photography where they hung a large empty frame from a tree branch close to where the reception was going on. They provided a box full of fancy dress wigs, hats and glasses and a few disposable cameras for people to use. Earlier in the reception things were quite civilised but just add champagne and things got more entertaining!

Jesus College wedding photography of Lara & David | sneak peek

jim / Cambridgeshire Wedding Photography, Jesus College Cambridge, VENUES / Cambridge Wedding Photography, Cambridge weddings, Cambridgeshire Wedding Photographer, Jesus College Cambridge, Jesus College wedding photographer, suffolk wedding photographer, wedding photography / 0 Comment

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding since David very first rang up to book. David is the brother of John, whose wedding I photographed back in ’04 on a scorching hot September day – David and Lara had planned to get married at the same time of year but the announcement of the arrival of several nephews & nieces meant that they had to push the wedding date back to December. And the weather couldn’t have been more different – it snowed steadily pretty much all the afternoon and evening before leaving a near perfect winter wonderland for the next day. Great for photographs but a few anxious phone calls the morning before the wedding to make sure that people could get there okay! More images to follow but here are a few quick favourites from the day
