Christs College wedding photography of Emma and James

Unexpectedly fine weather for the Christs College wedding photography of Emma and James. The week before the country had been battered with howling gales, things weren’t looking promising. Thankfully though the weather calmed down and we even had some glorious winter sunshine. Great to be back at Christ’s College, such a beautiful venue for a wedding. Also great to be at a wedding with so much significance for Emma and James as this is where they first met back when they were undergraduates. Emma looked absolutely stunning – if there was any doubt she would look anything less. James looked devilishly handsome in his full white tie and tales but couldn’t really compete with Emma’s extraordinary shoes. The Louboutins were quite something to behold, all of them, even the cake topper and vodka luge Louboutin! There was such a great energy on the day, so many friends coming back to college made for a very familiar feel and plenty of Guinness welcomed everyone else in. That vodka luge also helped towards some impressive dancing later in the evening. Emma and James’s dance routine was out and out the best routine I’ve seen put together as a first dance, well if you’re going to do it, throw yourself into to completely!

Christ’s College wedding | Just One

All week long, howling gales have been hitting the UK so the weather wasn’t looking promising for Emma and James’s Christs College wedding this weekend. But it really was the quiet after the storm as we had picture perfect skies and a warm and rain-free day. I had packed the car in full expectation of having to battle fierce wind and storms but thankfully it wasn’t needed. The word of the day? Well, it had to be ‘shoes’ and specifically Louboutins! So it’s probably a travesty that this shot is not of the incredible shoes themselves (that’s the main Louboutins, not the second pair for the car …) They actually deserve a little post all of their own. Here’s a shot of Emma from the start of the day on the roof terrace of The Varsity Hotel showing incredible grace and poise at the awkward moment another bride came up on to the terrace to have her photographs taken – obviously nowhere near as glamourous or beautiful as Emma. More images to follow soon.

ISPWP Awards | award winning wedding photography

Having been a judge for this competition in the past, I’m only too well aware of high the standards are of photographs that are entered for the ISPWP. Competition is pretty tough as it is spread world-wide and amongst some of the best photographers in the wedding industry …so to have a couple of images recognised as award winning wedding photography is a real privilege. I was especially pleased as I was rated 15th overall and one of the few UK winners. The first shot is from Helen and Tom’s autumn wedding at Losley Park, Surrey, very moody venue shot, and the second image (which always makes me chuckle) is from Jess and Robert’s wedding at South Farm in the fantastically named village of Shengay-cum-Wendy. Notley Abbey wedding of Lucy and John

My last wedding of the year was a Notley Abbey wedding with Lucy and John – and always great to go out with a bang. Beautiful autumnal day, low lying golden sunshine and the trees in glorious browns. Lucy and John were a great couple to work with, charming, great sense of humour (well, I hope so and that they weren’t just being polite with my jokes …) and their wedding day was a lot of fun to be at. Notley Abbey is a stunning venue to photograph at all year round, day and night and I am always amazed at how efficient yet completely unnoticed the staff are. Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Beirne! Here are a few of my favourite images and you can see the full gallery by clicking this link | Notley Abbey weddings

The last wedding of the year for me and it was the Notley Abbey wedding photography of Lucy and John. I love this shot of the two of them, it was right after the ceremony – and I mean ‘right after’ as I grabbed them just as they left the ceremony room so we could get a photo in the last bit of autumn light. It really was the last squeak of light left in the sky, the sun had set half an hour before this shot. It’s a testament to modern cameras that we can work in such low light situations and still get lovely colours and quality. But enough of the boring technical stuff – what I really like about this shot is that Lucy and John, like so many, are quite camera shy yet they were so happy (and a little relieved!) at this point, they just let me do my thing whilst they enjoyed the moment.

Weston Park wedding photography of George and Jon

I was a little anxious about the Weston Park wedding photography of George and Jon especially as they had planned fireworks for the evening and that 24hrs beforehand the rain was coming down so hard it had turned day into night. A quick recce around the house left me full of confidence though as Weston Park is a stunning venue and if your ‘plan B’ is an indoors wedding, you are pretty much spoilt for choice there. So, Friday night I did my little sun dance and, well hey, I don’t want to take all the credit for the glorious day that we had but I used to be a pretty smooth mover on the dance floor and the sun dance had done it’s magic. I suspect though that as the day had been planned with military precision, “good weather” had been put down on the list so good weather it was and not even the weather was going to argue with that. Glorious weather, stunning backdrop, autumn leaves, incredibly beautiful bride, very happy groom and lots of family and friends – it really doesn’t get much better than this. Here are a few of my favourites from the day and you can see the full gallery by clicking this link | Weston Park wedding photography

Many congratulations to George and Jon and all the very best for their new and exciting life ahead!

At 4pm on the day before, I wan’t expecting this kind of sky for Jon and George’s wedding at Weston Park. To be honest, I was unpacking the heavy duty rain gear and battening down the hatches getting ready for a pretty blustery and wet day as the rain was teaming down. What a difference a day makes, grey start but a glorious finale to a fantastic day. But being a Weston Park wedding photographer, the weather really isn’t too much of an issue, stunning surroundings and beautiful house to photograph in. Here is just one from the day – a big thank you to Jon and George for being such a great couple to photograph. Many congratulations and plenty more to come.

Carlton Club wedding photography of Elena and Peter

jim / Carlton Club, London Wedding Photography, VENUES / Carlton Club London, Carlton Club wedding photography, London Wedding, London wedding photography, London weddings / 1 Comment

The Carlton Club is a bastion of Englishness, a club in the heart of London’s clubland (that’s gentlemen’s clubland, leather sofas and wood panelled walls rather than loud music and day-glo sticks). The walls are adorned with oil paintings of the great and good, royalty and conservative politicians through out history. It’s the first wedding I’ve been to where the ceremony has been presided over by Winston Churchill’s steely gaze from one side of the room and Queen Mary’s quiet approval from the other. Such an imposing backdrop, steeped in history and tradition, yet the wedding day of Elena and Peter was an incredibly intimate affair with family and close friends being the heart of the day. It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster throughout with a lot of fun and laughter interspersed with the occasional (happy) tear. I always talk about the chemistry of a couple and these two have such an intense and intimate connection. There was also a bit of an emotional moment when I met them both for the first time and Elena mentioned she had been a semi-professional ballroom dancer. I asked Peter if he had much dancing experience …well, lets just say his enigmatic smile lost it’s edge a little. Glad to say the first dance proved a hit.
