Winter wedding at Hengrave Hall

elegant & stylish winter wedding

Winter wedding at Hengrave Hall. My last wedding of 2023 was a winter wedding at Hengrave Hall and what a belter it was to! Holly and James had been meticulous in their planning which really only left one thing on their agenda for the day and that was to kick back and have an absolute blast. And they certainly did that in style! They made the most of this incredible Suffolk wedding venue and didn’t let the energy level drop. Thankfully the weather was kind to us and the cold and rain kept away.

Hengrave Hall wedding preparations

The start of the day was a game of two halves. The girls preparations were excited and noisy with the odd champagne cork being popped. The boys room was diligent and ordered, shirts being ironed and bow tie instructions being read. The boys room is nicely set up like a mini-games room so normally you have gently nudge the boys away from the pool table towards the button holes. But not with James and his groomsmen, they were on the case and highly efficient.

Wedding ceremony in Hengrave Hall

The wedding ceremony itself took place in Hall itself. It might only be a short walk from the bridal suite but it’s an incredibly elegant one down those stairs. The nerves definitely let loose by the time Holly reached the top of the aisle, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! It was over to the chapel where Tina Howard – Celebrant took the blessing in her own inimitable heartfelt style. This close to Christmas it was also a great opportunity to belt out a few carols. After the blessing, Holly & James were showered in a storm of confetti before walking to the front of the Hall for a large group photo. Not too chilly but cool enough to head inside to make the most of canapés and fizz care of a tower of champagne glasses.

Hengrave evening party

After an excellent meal and speeches, it was time for sparklers on the terrace. I know I go on about it but so glad the weather worked in our favour! Then the party kicked into high gear with a packed dance floor. Elegant first dance from Holly and James followed by a soulful father / daughter dance, always a lovely touch.

Helping me out with 2nd shooting was the ever excellent Dominic Whiten who was with the boys whilst I spent the morning with the girls. On video was the inimitable Steve Hood. Bringing the sounds for the evening were The Footmen.
