Lil’s father had worked hard to prepare the farm for the wedding. Word had even gone out to other farmers on the route to the church that golden crops should be planted. The grandeur and formality of a military wedding quickly gave way to the laid back Suffolk farm approach to celebrations.

Suffolk military wedding. Hurrah – a gloriously sunny day for Lizzie and Beattie’s wedding – at last! Lizzie’s family had put so much effort into the day all the way back to re-landscaping the garden a year earlier so that it would be picture perfect for the wedding. And a lot of the plans relied on it being a dry day. Thankfully it was and not only dry but also beautifully sunny. Lizzie looked stunning and Beattie roguishly handsome. Walking out of the church into the Suffolk sunshine, through an Honour Guard was quite a magnificent sight and something quite extraordinary … so good, that they decided to do it twice.
Army wedding in Suffolk
Back to the immaculate farm for the reception. I loved the sight of all the guests walking down the long lawn to the marquee for the drinks reception. In particular the soldiers and piper who had made up the honour guard for the service. Glorious sunshine made for a glorious afternoon of champagne and canapés. It also meant that the speeches could be given outside on the lawn as well.
Into the marquee for the wedding breakfast catered for by Milsoms and beef provided for from the farm. Now, it’s about this stage at a military wedding that most people’s guard goes down. Formalities of the day are done, maybe a glass or two has been drunk and guests are feeling a lot more relaxed. You can usually tell by the fact that some of the gents are wearing some of the ladies hats. The shot glasses with purply-pink in them were also going down pretty quickly. Needless to say, it was an absolutely belting knees up on the dance floor, a party that wasn’t going to finish early!
