A Perfect Spring Day at Notley Abbey
As a Notley Abbey wedding photographer, there are few venues I enjoy returning to more than this stunning Buckinghamshire wedding venue. When Sarah and Anthony tied the knot, we were blessed with weather that felt more like the height of summer than the middle of April. Clear skies, warm sunshine, and beautiful spring colours created the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding day.
Notley Abbey is renowned for its romantic atmosphere, historic architecture, and beautifully maintained grounds. Every season brings something special, but there is something particularly magical about spring when the gardens burst into life. Sarah and Anthony’s wedding showcased exactly why this venue is considered one of the most sought-after wedding locations in the South East.
Why Notley Abbey is a Dream Wedding Venue
Nestled in the Buckinghamshire countryside, Notley Abbey combines centuries of history with elegant modern touches. Originally founded in the 12th century, the venue offers stunning stone buildings, picturesque gardens, and exclusive-use luxury that creates an intimate and relaxed wedding experience.
For wedding photography, the venue provides endless opportunities. From the grand entrance and sweeping lawns to the hidden corners of the gardens, every part of Notley Abbey offers a beautiful backdrop. The natural light throughout the grounds is exceptional, making it ideal for capturing both candid moments and timeless portraits.
As a Buckinghamshire wedding photographer, I always look forward to photographing weddings here because no two days ever feel the same.
Sarah and Anthony’s Romantic Notley Abbey Wedding
Sarah and Anthony were an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the day. Their relaxed approach and genuine connection made photographing them effortless. There was plenty of laughter, emotion, and a few memorable moments during the ceremonyโincluding a slight mix-up by the registrar, who accidentally called Anthony by a different name!
Those unexpected moments often become some of the most memorable parts of a wedding day, adding personality and stories that couples will talk about for years to come.
The atmosphere was joyful from start to finish, with family and friends enjoying the sunshine and making the most of the beautiful surroundings.
Stunning Cherry Blossom Wedding Photos
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the incredible cherry blossom in full bloom. Spring weddings at Notley Abbey can be spectacular, but the blossom display this year was particularly impressive.
As soon as I saw it, I knew we had to incorporate it into Sarah and Anthony’s portraits. The soft pink blossoms created a wonderfully romantic backdrop that perfectly complemented the season and the couple’s elegant style.
The contrast between the historic stonework of the abbey and the delicate spring blooms added depth and character to the images. These portraits quickly became some of my favourites from the day and perfectly captured the beauty of a spring wedding at Notley Abbey.
Natural and Relaxed Wedding Photography
My approach as a Notley Abbey wedding photographer is always to create natural, authentic images that tell the story of the day. While we set aside time for beautiful couple portraits, much of the day is spent documenting genuine moments as they unfold.
From emotional reactions during the ceremony to laughter during the drinks reception, these are the memories that truly reflect the atmosphere of a wedding day.
Sarah and Anthony embraced this relaxed style completely, allowing me to capture real moments without interruption while still creating stunning portraits in some of the venue’s most beautiful locations.

Great capture of the day. All the little elements make me feel as if I was there. It’s the small details that I need to improve on my own work. This makes me feel jealous.
