Alpheton Hall Barns winter wedding. This was the kind of winters day I absolutely love. It was freezing cold but the sun was glorious. Winter showing off at it’s absolute best. You want to be outside making the most of it all, then you realise how blumming chilly it all is so you realise that probably the best way to watch this day is from warm room with a big window!

We started with the girls getting ready in Lavenham. A few nerves but mainly a lot of excitement. Then it was over to see the boys at who were already at the barn, suited and booted. Thick tweed suits were not only very smart but very much appreciated in this weather. The gents did an admirable job of ushing everyone into the church adjacent to the barn (very handy) whilst we waited for Nicola to arrive. That golden sunshine was tremendous as it shone through the church windows. We grabbed a few quick photos on the way out of the church as everyone headed over to the barn. I would loved to have stayed out longer and made the most of the amazing light but it really was getting very cold, very quickly. Huge kudos to Alastair and Nicola for making it look all so comfortable!

The barn was sectioned off for the reception with a huge fir tree in the middle of the barn itself. How they managed to get it in there, I do not know but it was mightily impressive and made for the biggest Christmas tree I’d seen all year by far. Thankfully we had access to Alpheton Hall Barns South Barn (where they usually hold civil ceremonies) so we could do the family / formal photographs without getting in the way of the drinks. Then the curtains were drawn back to reveal the main barn for the evening meal. An impressive hunting horn announced the couple in, followed by speeches and some lovely personal touches on the tables made by Nicola. Don’t forget the mistletoe, can’t duck that this time of year!
Evening dancing at Suffolk wedding
The chill of the wintery day was long forgotten by the time the band kicked in. Nicola and Alasdair were quick modest stepping out to do their first dance but absolutely smashed it and carried that energy on throughout the rest of the evening. It being christmas time, it was an opportunity for a plenty of festive fancy dress for the dance floor as well. Alpheton Hall Barns winter wedding.

Nice to get some good winter light to play with – the low shot of the groom and his men, ahead of the ceremony, is a belter!
The sun was hugging the horizon all day, blummin’ lovely!
