Thank you so so much for the photos, they are just perfect. It was so lovely to have your calm presence there on the day and I think the fact that we were so comfortable shows in the beautiful photos.

Blythburgh Church wedding

Blythburgh winter wedding photos. There’s something magical about a bright, clear sunny winter’s day. The sun hugs the horizon for most of the day giving a wonderful golden feel to the day along with a mellow crispness. These kind of days usually happen mid-week when a wedding is coming up. But thankfully Iona and Jon struck it lucky with a perfect winters day. As many guests had travelled from all over the country, with a lot of Jon’s family travelling from Wales, it was great to give them a sunny Suffolk welcome.

Winter wedding in Blythburgh Church

I did a quick reccie of the church in the morning and was lucky enough to bump into Amelia & Tom. I was privileged enough to photograph their sunny winters wedding at Blythburgh Church (there’s a pattern here) just over a year ago. It was lovely to see them and to meet their new addition to their family. It fills me with so much joy to see their journey. And knowing that it really wasn’t that long ago that I was doing a reccie of the same church for their wedding.

I met up with the boys at the church. Lots of good organisation and preparation. Jon had outdone himself with the attention to detail. It’s difficult to tell if Jon was nervous; he’s such a happy, enthusiastic and welcoming person that showing any nerves wouldn’t be natural to him. Then over to Iona’s parents house for the girls preparations. Charming English seaside cottage with streaks of winter light poking through. The house was buzzing with activity and excitement. As much for the day ahead as the VW Beetle that had just arrived to take Iona to church!

The Anchor Pub Walberswick wedding

Walberswick Church is an incredible space. It’s huge for an ancient church, almost cathedral like. Ornate wooden ceiling and beautiful large windows to let in all that golden sunshine. Two very happy and excited people took their vows in a bright shard of that sunshine, a good omen indeed. After the ceremony, we made the most of the space to take all the family formal photos before the headed out into a wall of confetti. Into that VW Beetle with the bridesmaids in a VW camper van and off to The Anchor Pub in Walberswick for the wedding celebrations.

As it was winter, we had just enough time to get some photos of just Iona & Jon in the garden of the pub as the sun was setting. Having done all the formalities, it was just down to enjoying the party. They had put a marquee around on the patio, around the pub making it very comfortable for such a large gathering. As ever, the food was spectacular and set everyone up for a big night of partying. Not before some speeches where I think Iona probably came in for more ribbing than Jon!

Before the partying got under way, the Welsh side of the family belted out some traditional favourites. Nothing like a good ol’d sing song to get everyone fired up. The dance floor was heaving and full of energy for the whole evening. Blythburgh winter wedding photos.
