Midmar Castle wedding photography. “It’s a big, pink castle”. I wasn’t sure I had heard it right. The very kind person who recommended me to Tsumi & Rich for their wedding was very excited about what a lovely couple they are. She wasn’t wrong, Tsumi is full of smiles and genuine enthusiasm for all things; Rich is the same but with a sense of considered calm. They match each other perfectly in energy and outlook and that, for me, is the single perfect ingredient for a great wedding. I still couldn’t get away from the idea of a big castle in Scotland though. This I had to see!

I arrived in Aberdeen to glorious sunshine. Fresh, crisp and clear. Scotland might not be known for it’s sunshine but when the sun does come out, it is one of the most incredible countries. Simply stunning. Winding my way through this landscape, I nearly forgot about the castle so it was an incredible surprise to drive through it’s deer park and see this glorious chateau of a castle. And it was pink! It is an amazing piece of Scottish history. Tsumi’s father adding to it with his exploits of recovering sunken gold to afford to buy the castle. Truly incredible.

This was the backdrop for the celebration of a lovely day. Tsumi and Rich added their own mark with lots of surfing and sea details – from surf boards to flip-flops and Aussie flags. They were married in their local church – again the local church yard having it’s own history. The church was built next to an ancient stone circle. Not unusual to keep this as a place of worship from ancient times and certainly another part of the story for the day.

Back to the castle and the castle grounds to make the most of the sunshine and grounds for the wedding reception. A short breather before the evening’s dancing kicked into full action. A traditional ceilidh followed by an all request DJ – it always promised to be a belting party and it didn’t disappoint!
