Butley Priory wedding of Sammy & Lewis

Butley Priory wedding. A Butley Priory wedding is quite a unique thing. Stunning venue with a charm all of it’s own. It has a light, airy and wistful feel about the place giving it the perfect atmosphere as the romantic backdrop for a wedding. It’s also a family home licensed for weddings, so ideal for that intimate feel but with a sense of grandeur. Most weddings spend the weekend here and it’s not unusual to turn up to a wedding day feeling like you’ve come home. (If your home is a 14th century gate house to an ancient priory, that is!)

Sammy and Lewis’s day was just brilliant. Nothing was going to stop these two from smiling all day long. And it was infectious. The nerves were there were in the morning; Sammy was a little quiet and introspective whilst Lewis was nervous in the only way groom’s get nervous, they get organised and organise everything. He did it impeccably, though, and every detail was taken care of. (I was particularly impressed by the wine bottle table seating plan, looked brilliant!) The walk down the stairs to the hall for the wedding reception is particularly stunning but not as stunning as Sammy looked walking down those stairs (smooth, Jim, smooth). The hall is impressive in that although it’s light and airy, it’s also very intimate.

After the ceremony, it was into the gardens for champagne and nibbles. Then a few grey clouds threatened over head so it was a quick step back into the hall. After the briefest of showers (the clouds were just toying with us), it was back outside to enjoy a proper summer’s day. Then through to the marquee for the evening meal and entertainment. I’ve seen a quite a few grooms sweat under the pressure of their best man’s speech but Lewis had the extra pressure of his new mother-in-law offering a few ‘words of advice’. The words of advice that only a mother in law can deliver and the ones you had better listen too!

Day turned into night and the party got into full swing. From the hill over looking Butley Priory, the marquee, the Priory all lit up and that deep blue sky (even with a hint of a rainbow. Thanks clouds, you came good in the end!) And the end of a magical day.
