Grove House wedding photography of Liz & Simon

Grove House wedding photography. Last Saturday I was off to London for the Grove House wedding photography of Elizabeth and Simon. Grove House, Roehampton is a real find for a London wedding venue; stunning Georgian building in landscaped gardens, wood panelled ballroom for ceremonies and the wedding breakfast and so much more besides. I was very pleasantly surprised, having driven past it every day for about 5 years, I never knew that something as lovely as this was here.

    Seckford Hall wedding photos

Seckford Hall wedding photos. Every now and then I am asked what my favourite venues are to photograph a wedding. I ‘um’ and ‘ahh’ a bit thinking of all the amazing venues I have had the privilege of photographing at but it always comes down to one simple thing. The chemistry of the couple I am photographing. Simple as that. Don’t get me wrong, I love a great wedding venue and Seckford Hall is a fantastic place for a wedding, you are spoilt for choice here. If the chemistry isn’t there, your venue will only provide so much of the magic. So if I could give one bit of advice to any couple wanting to get the best out of their day, that would be to “smile lots and enjoy it”.

Winter wedding photography at Hengrave Hall of Becky & Kieran

The weather for winter wedding photography at Hengrave Hall really doesn’t get much better than this – clear, crisp blue skies, enough of a chill in the air to remind you that it’s winter but not enough to make being outside feel miserable. This kind of winter weather is perfect, it gives you so many different options and opportunities which I’m so glad that Becky and Kieran took. The day started with a wonderfully emotional civil ceremony in the library – intimate ceremonies like this can really bring out the emotions in everyone, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! The sun stayed with us for the blessing in the chapel, that low-lying winter sun hugging the horizon giving a magical feel to the day especially when Becky and Kieran were greeted by all their guests with confetti as they walked out of the chapel. The speeches were a testament to what a fantastic couple these two are – Kieran getting roasted by his brother but with so much heartfelt pride in his brother. And Becky’s incredible generosity and kindness shone through. The evening was well fuelled (!) and we had plenty of takers for the photobooth after the dancing had started, even a little flower girl! Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

  1. James was recommended to us by a very close friend who is a talented and highly respected professional photographer but she couldn’t take the job as she was a guest! What a phenomenal recommendation though! The photos were absolutely outstanding and we could not have been any more delighted with his work. We deliberated for a long time about whether to pay for a videographer and ultimately decided against it and when we saw Jim’s photos for the first time we realised we were right not to as he told the story of the day magnificently. He captures people and emotion brilliantly, naturally and creatively. We told him before the day that we didn’t like loads of photos of people lining up next to each other, holding a drink smiling and posing for the camera and he explained neither did he and the photos reflect this. We also said we didn’t want to waste too long on the official photos so we could enjoy more time with our guests and he delivered on this too. Meticulously planned, the official family shots were not only brilliant but took no time at all leaving us to really enjoy the day. Jim delivered far more than just his amazing photographs. He had an amazing skill of being really helpful beyond his remit yet blending effortlessly into the background and was happy to go the extra mile whether that was a quick job to help with a young child or being on hand to advise as to which lapel the carnation went on! A lovely, lovely man who played such an important role on the day yet went largely unnoticed during the key parts. If you’re thinking of a wedding photographer you need this guy on board!
