Late summer wedding in North Essex

So many wonderful things going on at Lucy and Doug’s wedding. A superb day filled with colour, fun (so much fun), laughter, stunning flowers, extraordinary dancing, good food, hilarious speeches and lots and lots of hats. A lot of wonderful hats of all different shapes and sizes. Lucy is a milliner and a lot of the hats that were there, were her creations. And, of course, her own gorgeous bridal headband. So I make no excuses for taking lots of photos of all the incredible ladies in their stunning headwear! The day was a riot of bold colours, lots of beautiful summer print dresses complimenting the incredible flowers by Lucy Vail. The gents were not to be out-done as many were in tartan of all shapes and shades.

I started the day at Lucy’s house with the girls for bridal prep. I was met by the jack russel sitting proudly on the garden table who was most definitely in charge. A wedding with dogs always scores huge bonus points with me. All was pretty calm, excited but calm with the girls. Slightly different with the boys at the church, nerves were definitely palpable. So many eager faces ready to see these two standing at the top of the aisle, it was a joy to witness. So many friends and family genuinely invested in their happiness. Loads of cheers and smiles as the nerves disappeared and they headed out into a storm of confetti after the service and into a little green Morgan for the reception.

Marquee wedding reception

Quintessential wedding afternoon with an indulgent afternoon of drinks on perfectly manicured lawns with the sound of chatter getting louder and louder. The sun even graced us with it’s presence. We had an elegant gathering of all the ladies with Lucy’s hats. Then a bouquet throw where it was everyone for themselves. Two of the guests piped Lucy and Doug into the meal – an impressive feat in itself but more-so as they had taught themselves the bagpipes during Covid.

A sublime afternoon quietly drifted into the murmurings of good food and company. The evening was kickstarted with some hilarious and very entertaining speeches which perked the energy up for the dance floor. The energy is always high when The Fabulous Hurricanes are on stage – the first dance drumming was ably assisted by Lucy’s brother. Now, most dance floors will slow down and fill up as the evening goes on – not with these guys, it was relentless! The party energy was phenomenal. A few took a break toasting marsh mellows around the fire outside but not for too long before they were back inside. And the dogs were there to make sure everyone was on best behaviour … and to make sure there weren’t any spare canapés.

Special mention goes to Jack Howard | Crown Video who was on video with me for the day.
